Leadership Coach
Karen Welch has dedicated 40 years to education with the Downingtown Area School District. Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions as a teacher, academic advisor, and administrator.
Karen began her career as a middle-level language arts and math teacher in both elementary and middle school buildings within the district. Karen moved on to become an academic advisor, guiding students through their educational journeys and supporting them in their academic and personal growth.
She served as assistant principal for five years at the middle school level, where she managed school operations and supported both students and staff. She then moved to assistant principal at the high school, where she served for twelve years. In this role, she played a key part in shaping the high school’s programs and environment.
One of Karen’s key achievements was her expertise in creating master schedules for both middle and high schools. This complex task required a deep understanding of educational needs and logistical planning.
Karen also played a crucial role in district strategic planning, helping to develop and implement long-term educational goals. Her work ensured that the district adapted to changing educational needs and opportunities.
Throughout her career, Karen was dedicated to helping new teachers succeed in the district’s induction program. She provided them with the support and resources they needed and mentored aspiring principals through internships, helping to prepare the next generation of educational leaders.
Outside of her work with the district, Karen served as an adjunct professor at Cabrini University, teaching graduate-level courses in curriculum and instruction. She shared her knowledge and experience with future educators and administrators.
Karen remains dedicated to student success and leans into educational challenges.
