AI Best Practices is an innovative professional development program designed to equip district leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence in education. TLS has carefully designed this program to address the demand for a comprehensive understanding of AI technologies, their implications in the educational sector, and the use of effective strategies for their integration.

Creating a district-specific set of Best Practices for Teaching with AI that is in line with district policy will offer guidance to educators, provide assurance to parents, and ensure direction and protection for students.

The process and resources for developing the Best Practices list includes:

  • Ensuring a solid grasp of essential AI fundamentals.
  • Providing the district with essential resources to support effective AI implementation, including:
    • AI Classroom Guidelines – use these research based guidelines to develop classroom guidance for staff. These guidelines are grounded in the latest research and tailored to help educators develop effective classroom strategies.
    • AI Best Engagement Practices in Writing – The strategies in this document are designed to integrate AI tools into writing instruction to enhance student engagement and nurture creativity. It emphasizes AI’s roles in idea generation, feedback, and developing student voice, while stressing the importance of human feedback and creativity in the writing process. The approach aims to maximize AI’s strengths while maintaining the essential human aspects of effective writing instruction, preparing students for modern communication challenges.
    • AI Best Engagement Practices (non-writing) – This document provides strategies for educators to effectively integrate AI into classroom practices, emphasizing cognitive engagement and personalized learning. It categorizes AI applications such as scaffolding, formative assessment support, and metacognitive development, advocating  the use of AI to enhance student performances, manage classroom procedures, and facilitate interactive activities. The guidelines stress ethical AI use and aligning learning goals with higher-order thinking skills. It encourages educators to foster inclusivity and relevance in learning environments while promoting critical analysis and problem-solving. The document underscores the importance of transparency, student engagement, and proactive management of AI tools to maximize their educational benefits responsibly.
